European Co-operation Day celebrated in Suceava - Mural „Message for Ukraine”

The Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine marked the end “Message for Ukraine” manifesto campaign” organised on the occasion of the European Cooperation Day 2022 through a public event held in Suceava on Wednesday, 5 October 2022. On this occasion, the public was presented large-scale mural painting on the wall of the “Mihai Eminescu” National High School in Suceava, through which the CBC programme and its partners conveyed a message of solidarity and hope for the Ukrainian people. The mural was realised by a team of professionals, following the work entitled „Birds of Victory and Freedom” by 15-year-old Tetiana from Odessa, winner of the programme's “Message for Ukraine” competition. More than 60 works by young people from Romania and Ukraine, from which six finalists were selected and the winner was chosen by public vote on Facebook ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020. The finalists were awarded with smartwatches and the winner, present at the event in Suceava, walked away with the grand prize, an electric scooter. The event in Suceava, organised by the programme's management structures, the Managing Authority (Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration) and the Joint Technical Secretariat (Suceava Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation), was attended by representatives of the Suceava City Hall, Suceava County Council, the Union of Ukrainians in Romania and the Chernivtsi Regional Council. The participants expressed messages of support for the people of Ukraine and shared the experience of co-operation between border communities in the current context. At the same time, painting workshops were organised for Ukrainian refugee children in Suceava, which were led by the well-known graphic artist and caricaturist Mihai Pânzaru-Pim. The children drew symbols of cooperation on a digital screen, using the colours of the national flags of Romania and Ukraine. In the same campaign „Message for Ukraine”, the programme sent approx. 500 school kits to 5 schools in Ukraine, in the co-operation area, namely Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattya and Odessa. Every year, cooperation programmes funded by the European Union mark European Cooperation Day around 21 September with events bringing together communities on the Union's internal and external borders. This year was the 11th celebration of the day and was organised under the umbrella of the European Year of Youth. Under the #standwithukraine and by involving young people from Romania and Ukraine #youth4coop, the event - manifesto „Message for Ukraine” dedicated to European Co-operation Day aimed to bring to the forefront the support for Ukraine shown by communities, but also the potential of the young generation.
