The official launch of the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine Programme for the period 2021-2027 took place in Bucharest on Tuesday, 14 February. The aim of the event was to inform those interested about the existence of European funds for the development of the communities on the border between the two participating countries. The Interreg NEXT programme has a budget of €54 million in non-reimbursable funds, to which the national contribution will be added. Projects that benefit border communities in the counties of Satu Mare, Maramureș, Botoșani, Suceava and Tulcea (Romania) and the Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Odessa oblasts (Ukraine) will be eligible for funding. The areas covered by the programme are health, education, tourism and culture, climate change adaptation and border management. Thus, it will be possible to equip and modernise medical facilities, educational institutions, rehabilitate tourist attractions and carry out partnership projects to improve border management. Staff in these areas will also be able to benefit from joint training and coaching, exchange of best practices, and information and awareness-raising campaigns for the local population will be organised for disaster prevention and response. To be eligible for funding, a project must have at least one partner from each participating country, and details of the conditions for accessing the funds will be published on the programme's website, www.ro-ua.net.
