One Borderless Vision: BRCT Suceava celebrates 20 years of cross-border cooperation on the EU's Eastern border at #EURTEURegionsWeek 2025

The Regional Bureau for Cross-Border Cooperation (BRCT) Suceava, part of the national platform ROFRONT, successfully participated in the 2025 edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EURegionsWeek), held in Brussels, Belgium, from 13-15 October 2025. The event, organised by the European Commission (Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy - DG REGIO) and the European Committee of the Regions, is the largest annual forum dedicated to cohesion policy, bringing together over 6,500 participants and hosting over 220 sessions with over 300 speakers from across Europe. An interactive stand with „A vision without borders” BRCT Suceava and the other Regional Borders Co-operation Offices in Romania (BRCT Timișoara, BRCT Oradea, BRCT Iași, BRCT Călărași) hosted the interactive exhibition entitled: „One Borderless Vision: Celebrating 20 years of EU co-operation on the Eastern border”. The stand marked two decades of cross-border cooperation on Romania's borders, presenting to the European public the most impactful projects and stories implemented under the cooperation programmes managed by Romania with the following programming periods:
  • Period 2004-2006: Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) programmes funded by the PHARE CBC instrument.
  • 2007-2013: Common Operational Programmes (COP) under ENPI (for the Eastern Neighbourhood), IPA (for Serbia) and the European Territorial Cooperation Objective (Interreg IV for Hungary and Bulgaria).
  • Period 2014-2020: Neighbourhood Programmes (ENI/IPA) and traditional Interreg V-A programmes.
Through visual storytelling and interactive materials, the exhibition demonstrated the evolution, challenges and achievements of European territorial cooperation at the Union's external border. The stand dialogue was opened with a series of official speeches confirming the importance of territorial cooperation. Mr Cezar GROZAVU delivered the opening speech, marking his official debut in Brussels as President of ROFRONT. This speech was the first opportunity for the Association to directly represent itself on the European stage in Brussels, emphasising its strong commitment to promoting the interests of border regions. Together with him, the following guests honoured the event and delivered speeches:
  • Mrs Camelia COPORAN - Director General, Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration (MDLPA).
  • Mr Carlos BOLAÑOS - Interreg TESIM NEXT representative.
  • Mr Vasile ASANDEI - Director General, North-East Regional Development Agency (RDA NE).
They emphasised the crucial role of cross-border cooperation in ensuring cohesion, solidarity and common European values, especially in a strategic area such as the EU's Eastern border. The ROFRONT Association's participation in EURegionsWeek 2025 contributed to the consolidation of Romania's position as a key actor in the implementation of Cohesion Policy at the EU external border.Stand #ROFRONT was transformed into a vibrant space for dialogue, from which new strategic contacts and possible future partnerships resulted, essential for the development of BRCT Suceava's project portfolio and the entire ROFRONT platform. Thank you!The high level of involvement achieved in Brussels was proof of the strong spirit of teamwork. The ROFRONT stand became a vibrant space for dialogue, demonstrating how the Romanian partnership contributes to a more united Europe. We express our deepest gratitude to all BRCT colleagues for their active involvement. Working together under the ROFRONT umbrella proves that our vision for cohesion is truly borderless.
